When Do You Need It?

When you fill out your request we’ll ask for contact info for a pharmacy near you, and a Nurx medical provider will call in a prescription for you to pick up. We charge $15 for this service, and you will pay for the medication (either with your insurance or out-of-pocket) at the pharmacy when you pick it up.
You should know that Plan B, and generic versions, are available over-the-counter at most pharmacies, and it is probably less expensive to buy it that way rather than having our medical team call in a prescription. However, you may feel more comfortable having a Nurx provider prescribe Plan B so you can pick it up from the pharmacist vs. taking it off the shelf. In some cases you can use insurance to pay for Plan B if you do it this way, though that may depend on the pharmacist.
Ella is prescription-only and works up to 5 days after unprotected sex. Some pharmacies do not reliably stock Ella, so if you are requesting this pill for an emergency, we recommend that you call your pharmacy to make sure they have it available.

When you request EC to have on hand, a Nurx medical provider will write a prescription for either Plan B or Ella, then our pharmacy will fill it and send it to you, with free shipping and in discreet packaging. We will bill your insurance if you have it, and offer affordable pricing if you don’t (see chart below).

ELLA
Prescription-only Ella can be taken up to 120 hours (five days) after unprotected sex. It may be more effective than Plan B for women who weigh more than 165 pounds. Note: If you take birth control pills the medication in Ella might make your birth control pills ineffective, so you should use a back-up (like condoms) if you have sex within 7 days of restarting your birth control pills.

POSTINOR
POSTINOR prevents a pregnancy before it is established by preventing or delaying the release of an egg from the ovary (by preventing ovulation) with the help of a hormone called Levonorgestrel, the same hormone found in many regular contraceptives. It doesn’t work if you are already pregnant and will not harm an already established pregnancy. The sooner you take POSTINOR, the more effective it is.
